Hexagonal close packed crystal structure
If all of the atoms in a crystal are the same size, the maximum number of atoms that are coordinated around any individual is 12 also called fold coordination in which there are two ways that atoms can be packed. As shown in Figure a bif the second layer of atoms is added and its atoms occupy the space above the B voids followed by the third layer above the A atoms, this will result in hexagonal closest packing HCP with a stacking sequence of AB AB AB Figure a.
Close-packing of equal spheres e. The structure belongs to the trigonal system if the structure has the minimum symmetry, while it belongs to the hexagonal system if it has a 6 3 axis of symmetry.
Table a and Figure b show the hexagonal crystal systems and the schematic illustrations of the hexagonal lattices, respectively.
As indicated in Table a, the structures belonging to the trigonal system can have either a rhombohedral or hexagonal lattice. Both the hexagonal with 6-fold symmetry and the trigonal with 3-fold symmetry systems require a hexagonal axial system. Figure b. Schematic illustrations of the Bravais lattices of hexagonal crystals. The volume of an unit cell in a hexagonal crystal is given by. According to Radius Ratio Rulethe limiting cation-to-anion radius ratios for HCP ionic lattices can be obtained as shown in Table c.

Hexagonal Close Packed Crystal Structure (HCP)
Dominating slip planes, slip directions and s table Burgers vector for common crystal structures. If you look at the figure below, you might think that hexagon close-packed crystal structure is more complicated than face-centered cubic crystal structure. In fact, it is a simpler structure.
Think back to the last section where we constructed first one layer of atoms and then a second layer of atoms for face-centered cubic structure. Now, for hexagonal close-packed crystal structure, we do not construct a third layer. Instead, the third layer is simply the first layer repeated, the fourth layer is the second layer repeated, and so on and so on as shown in the figure below. It turns out that face-centered cubic and hexagonal close-packed crystal structures pack atoms equally tightly.
A more typical representation of the hexagonal close-packed structure is shown in the figure below. In this representation a hexagon on the top and on the bottom sandwich a triangle in between the two hexagons. Please return back to this website after completing that reading. Hexagonal Close Packed Crystal Structure HCP Print If you look at the figure below, you might think that hexagon close-packed crystal structure is more complicated than face-centered cubic crystal structure. Hexagonal close-packed structure. Hexagonal close-packed structure unit cell.In crystallographythe hexagonal crystal family is one of the six crystal familieswhich includes two crystal systems hexagonal and trigonal and two lattice systems hexagonal and rhombohedral.
The hexagonal crystal family consists of the 12 point groups such that at least one of their space groups has the hexagonal lattice as underlying lattice, and is the union of the hexagonal crystal system and the trigonal crystal system.
Each lattice system consists of one Bravais lattice. The hexagonal unit cell for the rhombohedral Bravais lattice is the R-centered cell, consisting of two additional lattice points which occupy one body diagonal of the unit cell. There are two ways to do this, which can be thought of as two notations which represent the same structure.
The Bravais lattices in the hexagonal crystal family can also be described by rhombohedral axes. However, the rhombohedral axes are often shown for the rhombohedral lattice in textbooks because this cell reveals 3 m symmetry of crystal lattice. However, such a description is rarely used. The hexagonal crystal family consists of two crystal systems : trigonal and hexagonal. A crystal system is a set of point groups in which the point groups themselves and their corresponding space groups are assigned to a lattice system see table in Crystal system Crystal classes.
The trigonal crystal system consists of the 5 point groups that have a single three-fold rotation axis, which includes space groups to These 5 point groups have 7 corresponding space groups denoted by R assigned to the rhombohedral lattice system and 18 corresponding space groups denoted by P assigned to the hexagonal lattice system.
The hexagonal crystal system consists of the 7 point groups that have a single six-fold rotation axis. These 7 point groups have 27 space groups toall of which are assigned to the hexagonal lattice system.
Graphite is an example of a crystal that crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system. The trigonal crystal system is the only crystal system whose point groups have more than one lattice system associated with their space groups: the hexagonal and rhombohedral lattices both appear.
The 5 point groups in this crystal system are listed below, with their international number and notation, their space groups in name and example crystals. The point groups crystal classes in this crystal system are listed below, followed by their representations in Hermann—Mauguin or international notation and Schoenflies notationand mineral examples, if they exist.
Hexagonal close packed hcp is one of the two simple types of atomic packing with the highest density, the other being the face centered cubic fcc. However, unlike the fcc, it is not a Bravais lattice as there are two nonequivalent sets of lattice points. The lattice angles and the lengths of the lattice vectors are all the same for both the cubic and rhombohedral lattice systems. All you have to do is to fill up a form with your particulars, and Simply Measured will give you a report on your Instagram account for the previous two weeks.
Union Metrics is a multi-channel social analytics platform. The checkup looks at your account for the past month, and you can refresh the report every day.

SocialRank is an Instagram and Twitter followers management tool. It allows you to segment, identify, and understand your followers so that you can better engage them. It is more of an audience insights tool than a data analytics tool. Pixlee is a visual marketing platform that uses user-generated content from Instagram, Facebook, and more.
It offers a free Instagram analytics app, which would send you a weekly report.
While it does not provide as much data as other free Instagram analytics tools, it calculates your Instagram influence score, which few tools offer. Your score is calculated by an algorithm which takes into account metrics such as your network size, engagement, and community trends.
Tip: If you are using Buffer for Business, you already have access to some basic Instagram analytics such as top posts and metrics graphs.
I thought it might be helpful to share a little about how we use Instagram as a marketing tool and how we track our Instagram performance at Buffer. Brian Peters, our digital marketing strategist, uses the various content formats for different marketing purposes.
Our Instagram posts are for driving brand awareness and engagement while our Instagram Stories and live videos are for sharing educational content. Instead, each brand has their own perfect time to post. With Instagram analytics, you can find your perfect posting times. With Instagram Insights from the Instagram app, you can tell the days when your followers are most active and the average times they are on Instagram on a typical day.
For instance, our followers seem to be most active on Sunday and from about 9 pm to 6 am SGT (or 8 am ET to 5 pm ET, working hours in the East Coast) for most days of the week. Using the Instagram Insights, you can easily tell which are your top posts and stories based on impressions, reach, and engagement. Once you have sorted your top posts, do you notice any trends.
For instance, our giveaway posts tend to generate the most comments while user-generated landscape photos usually receive the most engagement. To drive more engagement, we can continue to post landscape photos from our community.
For example, if most of your followers are females aged 35-44 who like to design, can you create content that resonates with them more than the rest of your followers.
You can also use your Instagram Stories data to improve your stories. Instagram Insights from the Instagram app provides data such as impressions, exits, and replies, which you can use to tell better stories. For example, our story on creating a custom graphic within Canva received more impressions than other recent stories, and our Instagram Stories takeover by HubSpot on productivity tips received more replies than other recent stories.
We can also dive into a particular story: Most people exited our video marketing stats story at the first photo so perhaps we could work on the headline for the next story. What does your Instagram Stories data tell you. Is there a type of stories that tends to do better than the rest. Is there a common point when most of your followers exit your stories.
Since Instagram allows only one link (in the bio), marketers would usually have a call-to-action (CTA) in their Instagram posts to direct followers to the link in their bio.The Packers were unfortunate to meet a juggernaut Falcons team last year, and I think their defence will improve enough this year to get them over the hump.
There was a reasonable amount of consensus on this one with the Tennessee Titans getting a lot of love from the panel, although there is a pretty bold shout from Brad and a very bold shout from Jesse in amongst them. Nick Goff: The Tennessee Titans have a huge chance to win their division and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
We also like Cincinnati at Betting Emporium. This is a team that dealt with a slew of injuries a season ago along with blowing a ton of late leads. The expected improvement of Tennessee QB Marcus Mariota is one of the main reasons many of our experts fancy a decent season out of the Titans.
If the regress to the mean in games decided by seven points or less (went 1-8) last year, they should challenge for the NFC East title. Quarterback Wentz should also improve in his second season and enjoy the protection of Lane Johnson at left tackle for a full season.
Johnson was suspended ten games last year, and without him Wentz posted a 48. Jesse May: I think Head Coaches are generally underrated in the scheme of ratings and modelling.
So we asked everyone what advice they would give to someone first getting started and we found some very solid adviceJesse May: Welcome to a new league of Bad Beats.
Imagine the worst sports betting bad beat you have ever taken, and then prepare yourself to get punishment and pain of a level 10 times that. But, on a more serious note, this is a betting gig with a very marginal edge.
Stake in a manner that accepts that there will be a lot of variance in your results. Also betting based on what you saw last is a terrible idea. Jesse May: For sure. The opposite is in fact more true. Todd Furhman: The biggest mistake new NFL bettors can make is falling in love with what they saw last.
We say it all the time, no matter the sport, no team is ever as good or as bad as they looked the week prior. Try to approach each game as a blank slate taking advantage of huge overreactions in the market. A common mistake from first time NFL bettors is to not factor in the difference between numbers like 2. Successful Field Goals are a huge factor in Point Spread betting.
Always be aware that the difference between those records often comes down to one or two great or terrible plays in each game, a bad refereeing decision or just old-fashioned good or bad luck. In any season there will be a couple of exceptional teams and a couple of completely hopeless ones. The rest will be separated by very fine margins. Teams play only 16 regular season games. Compare that with Premier League football at 38, or Major League Baseball at 162.
This means the handicap line (spread) is so important when placing bets. A lot of people will miss -2.I took this class out of general curiosity and the fact that it used Python, which is increasingly attractive to me in building my own software tools.
To my delighted surprise I found the course to be one of the very best (out of more than 20) I have taken at Statistics. It proved a harmonious blend of theory (buttressed by relevant reading and videos by the instructor), focused homework exercises, and training in Python coding.
As a result I learned much and enjoyed the process greatly. I was particularly impressed with the instructor's choice of homework assignments, which fascinated me, and with the importance he placed in students writing clear, even elegant, Python code. This is my fifth course using Python at Statistics. Allan Leis is a seasoned professional, working in the field, and it was a luxury having him cast an experienced gaze on my rudimentary code.
It's the kind of thing that would never happen in a MOOC and shows the value of a course such as this. Within 2 weeks of taking this class, I was able to produce far more informative plots than I ever had before.
I'm inspired to take more classes and learn as much as I can about this wonderful new world.
A friend recommended it several years ago, but I opted for free MOOCs instead, which haven't worked for me. The small size of the classes, the attention by the instructor, and the assignments bode well for learning.
All in all - a great course. It was perfect, much recommended to anybody wanting to understand the dynamics behind political microtargeting and how it can be applied to business. Many theoretical aspects that were known in the past have been empirically implemented with wonderful exercises of Mr. I have never had an online class before, and I have typically heard bad things about them, so I was shocked when I found out just how easy this course was to manuever. I really liked the format - it allowed me to work at my own pace yet still check in with the teacher and the other students.
A really great experience for my first online course. Both the instructor and the teaching assistant were approachable, helpful, and knowledgeable about the subject matter, and provided constructive feedback about discussion board posts and assignment submissions.
The textbook will be a valuable resource for future projects. He interacted meaningfully with students throughout the week. Was open to all questions and Displayed expertise of material. Would take another course with him. Iterative grading was helpful. Thank you so much Professors for this useful course.
I very much liked XLMiner, it is indeed a very simple yet powerful toolI was really impressed with the clarity, knowledge, engagement level, and patience of the instructor. His contribution in the forums made this the most useful online learning experience I've had (and I've tried a few different venues)I like the course very much and the material given to us was excellent.
I enjoy very much learning about simulations and using Cristal ball software. Also this course has given me valuable information about how to approach a risk analysis, and the software model assistant is very interestingI found it challenging but also a rewarding experience. After completing this course I am now more confident about undertaking statistical analysis. Since I started the Epidemiology Statistics class, I've had a much better understanding of the other staffs' concerns.
A very nice introduction to the subject. As someone without any real background in epidemiology, now moving into an area where I need it, this course was very helpful indeed.
This course is a great review of some popular probability distributions and how to test their assumptions.AMAZING JOB ARRANGING THIS TOUR. We were VERY pleased. We were very pleased with the overall experience traveling through Iceland with Nordic Visitor.
The service provided was top notch, very well organized, with detailed and very informative travel material and good selection of hotels and guesthouses. This was a trip we dreamed about for quite a while. Nordic Visitor and Arnar made it all come true. Every question and request I had was addressed quickly and professionally.
The trip was fantastic and we didn't have to worry about anything along the way, it was perfectly arranged for us. The accommodations were comfortable and exactly the kinds of places we would have booked on our own.
We loved Iceland and hope to return someday. Nordic Visitor did a great job for us. We were very pleased with our tour advisor's responsiveness and the thoughtfulness that she put into helping us plan our visit around Iceland. We couldn't have enjoyed the vacation without your assistance.
We really enjoyed our tour, everything was super well organized, we felt we had all the information we needed. The guesthouses we stayed at were nice. Rental car was brand new. All around positive experience. Really enjoyed having our own large map of Iceland with the route drawn in. We also used the spiral bound book with Nordic Visitor recommendations a lot. Our overall experience with Nordic Visitor was very positive from start to finish.
We were impressed with the friendly and knowledgeable staff, the arrangements made with hotels, car hire firms and activity organisers and the wealth of additional information provided. Nordic Visitor (Arnar) did an outstanding job preparing us for the adventure. We exchanged several emails prior to the trip and then on arrival the comprehensive welcome package was great. We particularly liked the large map with handwritten notes on things to see and pointing out our accommodations.
We felt well taken care of and the personal touch made us know we were not just another customer.
