I have a choropleth map of the united states showing total population. I would like to add a legend to the map showing the quantile range values.

I know I need to include the color range or color domain but just not sure if this is the correct way. As of right now just one feature shows up in the legend, could it be that all the legend features are stacked on top of each other. How can I know for sure and how can I fix this.

The legend code that you're using would work perfectly well if you had an ordinal scalewhere the domain is made up of discrete values that correlate to the range of colours lin may actriz mexicana a one-to-one basis. But you're using a quantile scaleand so need a different approach.

For a d3 quantile scalethe domain is the list of all possible input values, and the range is a list of discrete output values.

The domain list is sorted in ascending order and then divided into equal-sized groups, which are assigned to each output value from the range. The number of groups is determined by the number of output values. With that in mind, in order to get one legend entry for each colour, you're going to need to use your colour scale's rangenot the domain, as the data for your legend.

Then you can use the quantileScale. Learn more. D3 choropleth map with legend Ask Question. Asked 6 years, 1 month ago.

I want it to use the color.

By the way, looking at the rest of your code, it looks like what you really want to use is a d3 quantize scale not quantilefor which the domain is a [min, max] range and the scale divides that into groups representing equal-sized extent of the domain variable rather than equal number of observations. The legend code above works the same for either type of scale, since in both cases the number of groups is determined by the range array, and the corresponding domain values can be accessed using invertExtent.

I am making a map of the boroughs in NYC and I can't seem to get the projection right: the only thing I get is a tiny map. I tried recreating this example, which only made the console go crazy with errors, I suspect because there was something off about the equation. When I was trying to get albers to work, I tried out the answer to this question, and still I could not get the map to work. Right now, I am using a transverse Mercator, with the code below, and the topojson I created using one of these files.

I created a bl. QGIS was also good checking the centre of the data, again which came out to be [ Note that these are the opposite way round to your co-ordinates which were lat and long, but d3 needs long and lat as discussed here in the API. The other thing to look out for is the negatives. North is positive so latitude in the northern hemisphere is positive and negative in the southern hemisphere. For the east and west hemispheres its east that's positive. Oh, and no discussion on Projections would be complete without a look at Jason Davies work.

If you want to use a different projection to the projection your data is in I generally think it's better to preprocess your data into that projection and QGIS is a great tool for that but there are many others such as gdal. I then printed out the scale and transform that was calculated dynamically, but this of course spit out non-neat numbers.

This ended up working anyway, but your answer is much more helpful. I didn't know how, sorry! Sign up or log in Sign up using Google. Sign up using Facebook. Sign up using Email and Password. Towards version The most interesting problem that the subway map poses is that of geography vs the system. The most common solution has been to either distort or remove the geography to compensate for that.

This makes for a particularly interesting design problem. Since I started working on the map in I became convinced that removing or distorting the geography, just because it is inconvenient, is not an optimal solution. My initial thinking revolved around way finding and landmark based navigation as it bears the potential of solving for both above ground and under ground navigation. To test and further develop that idea I started working on an interactive tool which allows me to study both the components of the system and the city.

This is a very crude work in progress visualization. Please be mindful that the data layers are rather large and they may take a moment to load when toggling among the different views.

Hover over the elements for additional information. Zoom in the map to explore the details. The landmarks layer is color coded by type of landmark, however the key is not exposed as the system is still in progress. Current status: Ongoing. Your JavaScript is disabled.
